Newcastle Frontrunners describes itself as the North East's largest inclusive running club, welcoming everyone with a particular emphasis on LGBTQ+ communities and their allies, and is part of the global International Frontrunners network with around 190 active members. The club is based at Gosforth Leisure Centre, where the flagship Wednesday evening Rainbow Run tempo session splits runners into six colour-coded pace groups based on 5K time. Mondays alternate between indoor strength and conditioning and a coached run development session at Sport@Kenton, with leader-led long and easy social runs on other days and cross country racing from late September to March. It suits absolute beginners through to competitive runners who want coached sessions in a welcoming environment.
Good to know
Open to everyone regardless of sexuality or gender identity, provided members respect the club's inclusive ethos. New runners get two free trial runs on Wednesdays; the Wednesday session requires being able to run 1 mile non-stop at a slow pace, and Monday run development requires being able to run 3 miles without stopping. Coached sessions are covered by the annual membership fee.
